Colonial Group History

In 1992, when the casino industry was just starting in Costa Rica, the company opened the Casino Club Colonial, known for its outstanding service. Professionalism, honesty, and a commitment to service have always been its trademarks, attracting exclusive and distinguished clients.

This select and elegant casino is located in one of the most culturally significant areas of San José, right in the heart of the capital city. The casino is near some of the most interesting museums in the country the Gold and Jade museums which are less than a kilometer apart.

Fourteen years after the opening of the casino and because of its success, the Colonial Group opened the Magnolia Restaurant. This addition enhanced the Casino Club Colonial’s service to its clients.

In July of 2005, the company celebrated the grand opening of its first hotel. Affiliated with Choice Hotels and carrying the Sleep Inn brand, it is the newest hotel in San José. Besides the Sleep Inn, there have been no new hotels in the area in the last fourteen years.

The hotel is on the north side of the Casino Colonial block and in front of the old street known as “Paseo de las Damas” (This street has had its name, which refers to the trees within five blocks of the area, since the eighteenth century.) The hotel is close to some of the most historic parks in the city Morazán, Spain and the Democracy Parks. Many guests have views of these parks from their hotel rooms.
